Anglo American investe US$ 92 milhões no Brasil

SÃO PAULO, 12 de agosto de 2008 – A Anglo American, subsidiária da Anglo American plc, um dos maiores grupos de mineração e exploração de recursos naturais do mundo, com atuação também no setor de papel e celulose, anunciou hoje investimento de US$ 92 milhões em comunidades locais e projetos de biodiversidade no Brasil.
Além disso, a empresa divulgou que pretende adquirir o controle acionário do projeto de minério de ferro denominado Sistema Minas-Rio e o Sistema de minério de ferro do Amapá.
Os detalhes do investimento ainda estão em negociação, mas US$ 72,5 milhões serão destinados para beneficiar comunidades dos estados do Amapá, Minas Gerais e Rio de Janeiro, em um período de dez anos a partir de 2009. Outros US$ 19,5 milhões serão aplicados na plantio de aproximadamente 1 mil hectares de árvores por ano em Minas Gerais, também com data base de 2009, só que por cinco anos.
Em comunicado, a CEO da Anglo American, Cynhia Carroll, afirmou que a empresa está dando um passo importante na contribuição social e ambiental no Brasil.
