Vale aposta na força da China para manter investimentos

SÃO PAULO – Após visita recente à China, país que lidera a importação de minérios, o diretor executivo de Gestão e Sustentabilidade da mineradora brasileira Vale, Demian Fiocca, voltou otimista ao Brasil. “Minha avaliação é que a China está em situação bem mais robusta de que outros países. Não é que a China não será atingida pela turbulência internacional, mas ela tem todos os instrumentos para reagir com medidas e por isso tem condições de manter o crescimento em 2009”, afirmou com exclusividade ao DCI.Cerca de dez dias depois do corte de aproximadamente 10% da sua produção de minério de ferro, o que representa 30 milhões de toneladas, por causa da queda de demanda, a companhia sabe que pode enfrentar da melhor maneira possível a crise financeira internacional. “A Vale se preparou e hoje ela está em posição muito sólida, tem ativos de baixo custo e tem capacidade gerencial”, afirmou o diretor de Gestão da Vale, uma das empresas ganhadoras do Prêmio DCI Empresas do Ano.O presidente da companhia, Roger Agnelli, já minimizou a redução de produção da Vale e afirmou que era um procedimento comum no mercado. Outro fato que deixa a empresa diante de um cenário mais confortável, é que 40% dos R$ 19 bilhões captados pela Vale antes do agravamento da crise está aplicado em dólar.ReflexosApesar do bom preparo estrutural e financeiro da Vale, os fatos já demonstraram que a empresa não atravessará a crise incólume. “Os clientes da Vale estão sofrendo com a crise e estão diminuindo o consumo, principalmente o de minério de ferro”, explicou o diretor de Gestão da companhia. Conforme já noticiou o DCI, a indústria siderúrgica já registrou queda de 10% em sua demanda, diminuição provocada pelo arrefecimento da indústria automobilística. A retração esperada para o primeiro trimestre de 2009, no entanto, é de 30%. Esses fatores demonstram mais desaquecimento da demanda pelo minério de ferro.Por isso mesmo, a Vale já começou a negociar alguns de seus contratos. Roger Agnelli já anunciou que vai oferecer ajuda ao ser maior cliente: a ArcelorMittal, que anunciou recentemente corte de 30% em sua produção. Ele disse haver a possibilidade de o contrato atual não ser honrado.Nesse momento em que o mercado perdeu o ritmo apressado em que estava operando há alguns meses, a Vale está “arrumando a casa”.” Essas medidas não estavam sendo possíveis de ser executadas quando estávamos diante de um cenário de produção máxima. Agora temos tempo para fazer algumas manutenções”, ressaltou Demian Fiocca.Por outro lado, o diretor afirma que a Vale tem condições de ampliar a sua produção assim que houver demanda. “Mas hoje é muito difícil de dizer quando isso irá ocorrer”, lembrou. Os investimentos previstos para 2009 de US$ 14 bilhões estão mantidos. “Em 2008 foram US$ 11 bilhões, que já foi o maior investimento da mineração. Ano que vem será um novo recorde”, afirmou Fiocca. No entanto, o executivo lembra que a Vale vai “continuar avaliando o mercado”.De acordo com o executivo da Vale, o mercado está vivenciando um momento de reações “emocionais e outras emergenciais”. Apesar da Vale estar em posição sólida e pronta para manter investimentos, outras empresas não estão na mesma trilha. “Esses próximos meses não serão parâmetros para o médio prazo”, afirmou o diretor executivo de Gestão e Sustentabilidade.Na última sexta-feira, executivos da Vale e da siderúrgica ThyssenKrupp comemoraram o embarque da bilionésima tonelada de minério de ferro de Carajás.A Vale participa com a ThyssenKrupp de um projeto de usina de placas de aço, com capacidade de produção de 5 milhões de toneladas.A planta está sendo construída no Rio de Janeiro e a previsão é de que comece a produzir até o final de 2009.AdmiradasVencedora do prêmio do DCI como empresa mais admirada tanto em seu setor como entre todas as companhias de capital nacional, a Vale recebeu mais de dois terços dos votos no destaque setorial . “A Vale simboliza a confiança no Brasil”, afirmou Fiocca.
