Roger Agnelli informou que demanda por parte da China teve ?queda significativa? que será revertida só em 2009
Pequim – O presidente da Vale do Rio Doce, Roger Agnelli, afirmou, sexta-feira última, que a demanda da China por minério de ferro já apresenta uma ?queda significativa? e este consumo não deverá se recuperar aos níveis atuais até pelo menos meados de 2009. Numa conversa com analistas financeiros, Agnelli disse que o mundo deverá enfrentar uma recessão severa pelos próximos 10 meses e a recuperação da economia mundial, por conta disso, é ainda uma incógnita.
Mas para uma empresa cujo lucro cresceu 64% no último trimestre por conta de uma surpreendente desvalorização do dólar, apesar da queda nos volumes exportados, o que pode ser crise para uns acaba se transformando em oportunidade para outros.
Pois apesar de toda a crise, a Vale do Rio Doce planeja abrir ainda neste ano ? no mais tardar no primeiro semestre de 2009 ? aquilo que pode ser definido como a primeira ?loja de conveniência de minério de ferro? do mundo. Trata-se de uma espécie de depósito de minério de ferro, que será aberto na China, onde a empresa manterá estoques de minério para abastecer os mercados de vendas à vista na Ásia, um dos mais ativos do mundo, apesar da crise financeira global.
Prazo menor
Hoje, quando uma siderúrgica asiática encomenda um carregamento de minério de ferro da Vale, o processo de extração, embarque e transporte do minério leva entre dois e três meses. A idéia do depósito é justamente reduzir este prazo e ampliar a venda por conta da agilidade do novo processo.
?A Vale deverá abrir uma espécie de show room de minério na China para entrega imediata na região, ampliando a venda e diminuindo prazos?, diz um analista que acompanha as operações da Vale do Rio Doce na Ásia. ?O que ainda não está definido é se a empresa vai trazer o minério do Brasil e enterrá-lo em solo chinês para vender para empresas locais à vista ou se vai adquirir uma mina capaz de fornecer este material na proporção da demanda atual?, acrescenta. A necessidade de enterrar o produto em solo chinês, explica a fonte, é que o minério de ferro oxida muito facilmente em exposição ao ar.
Mas o negócio depende ainda de autorização do governo de Pequim para que a Vale use uma área na China com este objetivo. Trata-se de um negócio que pode agradar aos dois lados. Afinal, a Vale vinha insistindo até meados de outubro num novo reajuste de preços para venda de minério de ferro para a China, alegando a alta no consumo da matéria-prima pelas siderúrgicas locais.
Crise
A crise financeira pegou a empresa no meio da negociação e o que era alta de consumo virou queda na demanda por minério com o desaquecimento nos setores de construção civil e de exportação provocado pela recessão nos EUA e Europa.
As usinas siderúrgicas chinesas já estão reduzindo os pedidos de minério de ferro e agendando com as grandes minas do país o adiamento na entrega de matéria-prima por conta da desaceleração no setor. Para muitos, no entanto, as empresas que forem ágeis o suficiente para entregar minério na velocidade e na quantidade demandadas pelas siderúrgicas ganham vantagem sobre os fornecedores tradicionais, que trabalham com entregas a prazos médios de dois a três meses.
?Se a Vale conseguir implementar esta espécie de atacado de minério na China, a empresa ganha uma vantagem competitiva extraordinária em comparação com suas concorrentes chinesas ou mesmo asiáticas?, diz um analista do mercado de minério de ferro na China.
