Mudanças climáticas demandam novas tecnologias
20/10/16
É impossível pensar hoje na Indústria da Mineração sem levar em conta os efeitos das mudanças climáticas. A questão foi debatida a fundo no terceiro dia do 24º World Mining Congress por representantes da indústria, governos e organizações civis. O surgimento de oportunidades diante do novo cenário global está entre as principais conclusões: ?Temos observado novas demandas e estamos otimistas?, disse Jennifer Hooper, diretora de saúde e segurança da Vale. ;Todos concordam que o setor industrial precisa inovar, tanto pelos efeitos diretos das mudanças climáticas, quanto pelas políticas dos países em relação ao tema. ?A mineração tem um impacto pesado. Não podemos explorar recursos minerais sem ver as consequências resultantes, e o governo tem a obrigação de proteger o ambiente e de usar bem as receitas dessa indústria?, disse Abdul Ignosi Koroma, vice-ministro de Minas e Recursos Minerais de Serra Leoa.; ?Temos de pensar nisso não só pelos efeitos no clima, mas também por causa da economia, pois é possível poupar milhões de dólares com novos métodos?, disse Tom Butler, presidente e CEO o Conselho Internacional de Mineração e Metais.;Os desafios, concluíram os participantes, são muitos, e a indústria da mineração em todo mundo tem procurado se adaptar à nova realidade. ?O progresso já realizado é impressionante, embora não seja suficiente? disse o canadense John Drexhage, consultor do Banco Mundial. ?A indústria da mineração está muito proativa e liderando o processo?, observou a moderadora do encontro Daniele La Porta, especialista sênior em mineração do Banco Mundial.;Segundo os especialistas, há soluções para minimizar o efeito estufa responsável por essas mudanças, e elas passam pela redução do consumo de energia ou a alteração da matriz energética, o que cria um campo promissor para novos negócios.; ?Identificamos oportunidades de otimização de ativos e aplicação de novas tecnologias?, disse Rinaldo Mancin, diretor de Assuntos Ambientais do Instituto Brasileiro de Mineração – IBRAM. ?Commodities chaves como o carvão vão ser afetadas, mas a aplicação de novas tecnologias vai gerar novas demandas em minerais?, disse Drexhage.;
