Crise estimula negócios com ouro

Investimentos cresceram 56% em um ano e devem chegar a US$ 1,5 bilhão até 2012

Em tempos de turbulência financeira, o porto seguro dos investidores é o ouro. Com a crise dos créditos imobiliários de alto risco (subprime) nos Estados Unidos não foi diferente e o resultado é não apenas o aumento no preço do metal, que acumula uma alta de 23% no último ano, mas também uma alta de 56,4% no investimento em mineração de ouro no Brasil. Agora será de US$ 1,55 bilhão para o período de cinco anos, entre 2008 e 2012, segundo levantamento realizado pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Mineração (Ibram). Em 2007, o valor dos investimentos em projetos de produção de ouro era US$ 989 milhões para o período de cinco anos.
As autorizações para pesquisa dadas pelo Departamento Nacional de Produção Mineral (DNPM) aumentaram 47,9% entre 2006 e 2007. Foram 1.782 só no ano passado.
Apesar da recente desaceleração no preço do ouro, que registrou queda de 10,23% no acumulado do ano até sexta-feira, o diretor presidente do Ibram, Paulo Camillo Vargas Penna, destacou que o metal ainda apresenta um valor elevado, do ponto de vista histórico, e não deve ter retração deste patamar.
? De 2001 a agosto de 2008, o ouro acumula alta de 206%, sendo que somente no último ano subiu 23,8%. Já o níquel acumula queda de 30% no ano, o chumbo caiu 54% e o zinco, 43% ? comparou.
Por isso, o executivo acredita que o metal continuará atrativo para investimentos: ? Muito disso deve-se à volatilidade no mercado financeiro, e o ouro se torna um ativo ainda mais importante nessas horas _afirma.
Em 2007, a produção brasileira foi de 47 toneladas, 14,6% acima do apurado em 2006, e correspondeu a 1,88% da demanda mundial, ante 1,64% do ano anterior. Mesmo com o crescimento, o país permaneceu no 13º lugar entre os produtores mundiais de ouro. Do total produzido, 33,8 toneladas foram exportadas ? incremento de 6,5% ante os embarques de 2006.
Com os investimentos, a produção brasileira deve atingir 80 toneladas até 2012. Deste volume, 10 ton virão da expansão da Rio Paracatu Mineração, controlada da Kinross Gold Corporation. A empresa está finalizando projeto para triplicar a capacidade da mina para 15 toneladas, com investimento de US$ 540 milhões, para operação ainda este mês. Com isso, já este ano colaborará para um aumento de 4,5 ton na produção brasileira.
Já a Yamana Gold vai investir US$ 740 milhões em seus projetos de expansão no Brasil até 2011. O volume corresponde a 57% do plano de US$ 1,3 bilhão que a companhia tem para ampliar sua produção de ouro de 37,3 ton para 68,4 toneladas.
O maior investimento será na expansão da mina de Chapada (GO), onde serão aplicados US$ 221 milhões. A mina deve duplicar o processamento de rocha, para 32 milhões, em 2011. A estimativa é de que produza 5,3 ton de ouro este ano e atinja 6,2 ton em 2012.
O projeto da AngloGold Ashanti, de US$ 350 milhões, prevê a expansão da mina de Cuiabá, localizada em Sabará (MG), que deve passar de uma produção anual de 5,2 toneladas para 8,5 toneladas até 2010.
