Chinalco investe US$ 19,5 bilhões na Rio Tinto

A Chinalco anunciou que irá investir mais US$ 19,5 bilhões na Rio Tinto, aumentando sua participação dos atuais 9% para 18%. Do montante total, US$ 12,3 bilhões serão aportados em participações em nove ativos de mineração da Rio Tinto. Os outros US$ 7,2 bilhões serão investidos em bônus conversíveis em ações. Os recursos ainda necessitam da aprovação de órgãos reguladores australianos. A parceria com a Chinalco poderá ajudar a Rio Tinto a reduzir sua dívida, estimada em torno de US$ 39 bilhões. Recentemente, o executivo Jim Leng, que seria o novo presidente da Rio Tinto, deixou a empresa por discordar da maneira como a diretoria está tratando a questão da dívida.
