On the 2nd day of the annual convention of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada – PDAC 2023, which takes place in Toronto – Canada, the CEO of the (IBRAM, Raul Jungmann, participated in the opening panel of the Brazilian Mining Day.

For Jungmann, the PDAC is a precious opportunity for the sector to get directly involved in global agendas of interest to humanity, to improve the sector’s image, as well as to generate sustainable businesses of recognized importance by society. “We at IBRAM work so that mining in Brazil is active and recognized as fundamental to providing the ores for the country to fulfill the commitments of the main global agendas, such as the energy transition and migration to a low carbon economy, the electrification, that of mitigating climate risks. Only with a greater supply of ores will this be possible”, he analyzed.

The CEO also spoke about a theme well known by the world community: the Amazon and its potential. “It exposes and inserts Brazil in the world. So, the entire equation for the mining sector and other economic sectors, such as infrastructure, among others, will go through an accurate reading of the Amazon. Therefore, in August we will hold two important events in Belém (PA) to bring industry, society and other stakeholders closer to this scenario. One of them is the Brazilian Mining Expo & Congress (EXPOSIBRAM 2023), which will discuss mining and its potential in the North and other regions of the country. The other, unprecedented, will be the International Conference on the Amazon and New Economies. It will bring an enriching debate on economic alternatives for the Amazon region and its future,” he said.

Raul Jungmann also presented some data on the mineral sector for 2022. “Mining will increase its investment in the country, from US$ 40.4 billion (period 2022-2026) to US$ 50 billion (2023 to 2027). Emphasis on socio-environmental investments. They will jump from US$ 4.2 billion to US$ 6.5 billion. In addition, the mining industry created more than 5,700 jobs from January to November, totaling almost 205,000 direct jobs; including indirect ones, mining generates more than 2 million jobs”.

Until the end of the day, during the Brazilian Mining Day, successful cases of international and Brazilian companies that recently reported investments in exploration projects in different mineral provinces in Brazil will be presented.
