With the urgent need for solutions to reduce CO2 emissions, experts and authorities will discuss the role of minerals in the energy transition.
In the current scenario of ecological transformation, critical and strategic minerals emerge as central protagonists in global debates. To discuss this vital topic for the future of humanity, the Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM) is holding the International Seminar on Critical and Strategic Minerals, on May 7th and 8th, in Brasília (DF). The event will address the importance of these minerals in the global energy transition.
According to the CEO of IBRAM, Raul Jungmann, there is no possibility of a transition to a low-carbon economy without the so-called “critical minerals”, such as lithium, niobium, rare earths, copper, among others. “These ores are inputs to develop technologies and equipment aimed at the energy transition. Brazil has a window of opportunities in this area. According to the International Energy Agency, by 2030 we will have US$1.2 trillion of investments in this area. This is a passport not only for the energy transition, but also for the country itself in terms of jobs and technologies. We have chances and opportunities that we cannot miss. We are going to put this issue at the center of debates with important players from public and private authorities”, says Jungmann.

The event program includes discussions on the new industrial policy for Brazil; socio-environmental considerations related to the exploration of MCE; the geopolitical dimensions and international policies that shape the critical and strategic minerals landscape; decarbonization routes for the mineral industry and the potential of these minerals in the Americas.
