The prospects for mineral projects involving partnerships between Brazil and Saudi Arabia, with a focus on critical and strategic minerals for the energy transition, were discussed during a meeting between the Vice President of the Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM), Fernando Azevedo e Silva, and Brazil’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Sérgio Bath. The meeting, held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, also included the participation of Minister-Counselor Helena Eloy and IBRAM directors Rinaldo Mancin, Institutional Relations, and Paulo Henrique Soares, Communication.
According to Fernando Azevedo e Silva, Brazil stands out as a key supplier of essential minerals for global economies, while Saudi Arabia, with its growing demand for these resources to develop advanced technologies such as batteries and renewable energy, represents a promising market. The IBRAM Vice President believes that collaboration between the two countries could strengthen production chains and ensure security and sustainability in the supply of these vital materials, providing mutual benefits in technological innovation, economic diversification, and sustainable growth.

Azevedo e Silva also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s interest in diversifying its traditionally oil-centric economy and expanding its mining sector. “Brazilian mining companies have a strong interest in seeking financing, and this activity requires significant financial resources, positioning the Saudis as potential strategic financial partners,” concluded the IBRAM Vice President.
During the meeting, an invitation was extended to the minister and his team to participate in the upcoming EXPOSIBRAM 2025 – Brazil Mining | Expo & Congress 2025, which will take place in Salvador, Bahia, from October 28 to 30.
