FIEMG and IBRAM renew institutional alliance in favor of mining
11/04/22
Longstanding partner business entities, the Federation of Industries of the State of Minas Gerais (FIEMG) and the Brazilian Institute of Mining (IBRAM) renewed their institutional alliance in a meeting this Monday between the main leaders of the two entities, Flávio Roscoe, president of the Federation , and Raul Jungmann, CEO of IBRAM. The two organizations are going to continue the articulation that they maintain for the sustainable development of the mining activity in Minas Gerais.
Considered one of the main mining states in the country, Minas Gerais continues with good prospects for the development of mineral activity. In 2021, the state had the highest percentage increase in revenue in the sector. According to IBRAM data, last year, Minas recorded revenues 87%, higher than in 2020, from R$ 76.4 billion to R$ 143 billion. With this result, the state accounts for 42% of the global revenue of the Brazilian mining industry in 2021 – this share was 37% in 2020.
Minas Gerais also had the highest increase in royalty payments in 2021 (BRL 4.6 billion, a growth of 95%) and is also the state that will attract the most investments in the sector until 2025, US$ 10.2 billion. IBRAM states that mining is and will be relevant to the state’s economy for a long time and has been carried out in accordance with international standards of operational safety and sustainability.
These robust data place the mining industry among the main segments represented in the state by FIEMG. The Federation has a role considered essential for the development of business mining and acts in line with IBRAM so that this economic sector treads the path aimed at sustainability combined with high levels of operational safety and respect for people and the environment.
At the meeting, held at the FIEMG headquarters, in Belo Horizonte (MG), Raul Jungmann said that he hopes to have the support of Flávio Roscoe and FIEMG throughout his tenure, which began in March. IBRAM, said Jungmann, will direct part of its actions to generate opportunities for the mining industry, which will reflect positively on business for other segments of the industry in Minas Gerais over the next few years.
The panorama of new business in the mineral sector will be debated in September, in the capital of Minas Gerais, in September, during EXPOSIBRAM 2022, said Jungmann. He invited Roscoe to participate in EXPOSIBRAM 2022, to be held again in face-to-face format on September 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th. On the 20th and 21st of September, the virtual edition of EXPOSIBRAM will be organized.
