The event organized by IBRAM was sponsored by AngloGold Ashanti and the Instituto Cultural Vale, in addition to the support of the Museu da Inconfidência and the Instituto Estada Real.
The economic importance and influence of mining have left legacies over the years that can be seen in various cultural manifestations, in the baroque architecture of churches and mansions, in music and popular festivals, which reflect cultural richness and diversity.
In recognition of the relationship between mineral activity, history and culture in Brazil, the Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM) held, this Wednesday, in Brasília (DF), the event “Culture & Mining – Sarau Conexões Barrocas”.
This cultural initiative was marked by a diverse program, with presentations, recitals and a kitchen show on the history of Minas Gerais cuisine (read more below).
According to Raul Jungmann, CEO of IBRAM, mining is related to the development of Brazilian culture. The Minas Gerais baroque, he exemplified, “is the first manifestation of our cultural expression, which founds the identity of us Brazilians, and is related to the gold cycle”, which also motivated the separatist movements from Minas Gerais, with the Inconfidência Mineira . “All of this has to do with mining and today, at this event, we are bringing back our history,” he said.
