The Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM), represented by Vice President Fernando Azevedo e Silva, participated in the ministerial roundtable of the Future Minerals Forum 2025 alongside representatives from over 85 key mineral-producing and consuming governments. The event brought together delegations from 16 G20 nations, approximately 50 ministers, and 13 deputy ministers. Held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, the global forum began on Wednesday, January 14, and continues until January 16.
The meeting was one of the largest ever held by the global mineral sector, aiming to foster joint actions to increase the production and supply of minerals, meet the growing demand for these products driven by the energy transition, and create new development opportunities for producing countries.
Brazil’s Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, praised Saudi Arabia’s advancements in transforming and utilizing its mineral wealth, highlighting its role in promoting human modernity. He emphasized the importance of global discussions on cross-cutting issues, such as the energy transition, advocating for it to be “just, inclusive, and balanced,” in alignment with the vision of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Silveira also underscored the need to strengthen multilateralism with the support of the United Nations (UN), stressing that the energy transition should be conducted equitably.
IBRAM: A Strategic Opportunity for Mining
According to Fernando Azevedo e Silva, the roundtable was a strategic opportunity for key players in the global mineral sector, including Brazil, to discuss a partnership model capable of increasing financing for the sector and accelerating project approvals on a global scale. He also highlighted the importance of promoting Brazilian mining on the international stage, reinforcing its role in sustainable development and global mineral security.
IBRAM is leading a delegation of companies operating in Brazil to the FMF to foster dialogue between the Brazilian mineral sector and international partners, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and investment in the global mining context. Joining IBRAM’s vice president in Riyadh are directors Rinaldo Mancin, Institutional Relations, and Paulo Henrique Soares, Communications.
