With an intense program at COP30, IBRAM reinforces the mining industry's commitments to the climate agenda.

06/11/2025

The Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM) will actively participate in the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30) , which will be held in Belém (PA), with a broad agenda of events, panels, and strategic meetings. The Institute's presence at events in the COP Blue Zone reinforces the role of Brazilian mining in addressing climate change and building sustainable solutions for the planet's future. The Blue Zone is the official conference space where negotiations between countries, national pavilions, and high-level plenary sessions take place.

Below are listed some of IBRAM's main commitments at COP30. The agenda is subject to change.

Between November 10th and 17th, IBRAM will be represented in debates about the role of the mining sector in the energy transition, the green economy, and how the activity can be increasingly responsible and innovative. The program includes panels in the Bluezone and Greenzone (area for the general public) of COP30, meetings with governors and mayors of the Legal Amazon, meetings with business leaders and representatives of international organizations, as well as cultural and networking events.

Talk show “Commitments of the Mining Sector in the Face of Climate Change”

On the evening of November 11th, the Institute will host the talk show “Commitments of the Mining Sector in the Face of Climate Change” at FIEPA. The opening remarks will be given by Raul Jungmann, CEO of IBRAM, and Ana Sanches, President of the Board of Directors of IBRAM and CEO of Anglo American in Brazil. The talk show will be moderated by Rinaldo Mancin, Director of Sustainability at IBRAM. The event will be followed by dinner, where the responsibilities and opportunities of the sector in the face of the global climate crisis will be discussed.

Mining and the implementation agenda

On November 12th, at 10:30 AM, Raul Jungmann, Ana Sanches, and Rinaldo Mancin will participate in the panel “Implementation Agenda – Commitments of the Mineral Sector,” at the booth of the Legal Amazon Development Consortium, in the Bluezone of COP30. The Consortium brings together the nine Brazilian states of the Legal Amazon. This panel will gather government officials, leaders from the mineral sector, and corporate governance figures to discuss practical strategies and challenges in implementing sustainability and ESG commitments. John Lindberg, Senior Manager of Public Policy and Government Relations at ICMM, and Grazielle Parenti, Executive Vice President of Vale, will also participate.

Also on the 12th, starting at 18:30 PM, Raul Jungmann will participate in the panel discussion “Critical and Strategic Minerals for the Energy Transition”, promoted by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), at the Multilateral Development Banks Pavilion in the Blue Zone.

On November 13th, the CEO of IBRAM will participate in the roundtable discussion “Brazil’s Role in the Global Agenda for Strategic and Critical Minerals,” organized by the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI) at Casa Diálogo in Belém. The discussion will address how the country can develop productive capacities, foster innovation, and align mineral development with sustainability goals, with the participation of business leaders, representatives of foreign governments, and multilateral institutions.

Talk show “Opportunities and challenges for mining in the face of climate change”

On November 14th, at 10:00 AM, IBRAM will host the talk show “Opportunities and Challenges for Mining in the Face of Climate Change” at the COP30 Bluezone , in partnership with CNI. The debate will bring together representatives from the mineral sector, government, and civil society to discuss how mining can contribute to the global climate agenda while strengthening its resilience to the impacts of global warming. Guests include Raul Jungmann and Izabella Teixeira, former Minister of the Environment, among others.

On November 17th, IBRAM will participate in two more strategic panels. In the morning (10:30 AM), there will be a debate titled "The Climate Finance Ecosystem for Adapting the Mineral Sector to Climate Change." The topic covers financing mechanisms and instruments aimed at the transition and adaptation of mining operations. The panel will include Rinaldo Mancin, director of IBRAM, as well as representatives from Vale, CBA, AngloGold Ashanti, ICMM, and the International Council on Mining and Metals. In the afternoon (14 PM), director Rinaldo Mancin will participate in the panel "Energy Transition and China-Brazil Cooperation," at the stand of the Legal Amazon Consortium, addressing opportunities for cooperation between Brazil and China in the energy transition and the promotion of a low-carbon economy.

IBRAM will present publications and sectoral position statements in Belém.

IBRAM will be in Belém with a unique collection of technical e-books and sectoral position papers on topics related to the agenda of the United Nations climate change conference.
