The event highlights the Amazon as a key player in the energy transition and quality of life on the planet.
Salvador hosted, on the afternoon of this Thursday (30), at the Convention Center, the opening ceremony of the 3rd edition of the International Conference Amazon and New Economies , the main Brazilian forum focused on discussing the future of the Amazon and its innovative, ethical and sustainable development models. The event, which continues until Friday (31), has as its central goal the construction of a new productive paradigm for the region, reconciling economic growth – based on new economies – conservation of biodiversity, zero deforestation and reduction of social inequalities.
In his opening speech, the CEO of the Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM) and one of the event's organizers, Raul Jungmann, emphasized that the Conference was not created solely to discuss mining, but to involve it, as well as other actors, in the necessary discussions about how we should preserve and develop it. Like other sectors, "the mining sector needs to embrace the Amazon," he said. He defended the transparency and commitment of the mining sector to the region's future. He recalled that 33 civil society organizations participated in building the conference's agenda, making the event plural and collaborative. "The mining sector is now showing itself to be transparent, committed to the future of the Amazon; important discussions for projects to preserve the region and its people will emerge from here," the executive stated.

The president of the Bahia Mineral Research Company (CBPM), Henrique Carballal, highlighted the importance of preserving the Amazon and linked it to Brazil's role in the energy transition and the construction of a low-carbon economy. He also reinforced Bahia's commitment to sustainable development and national sovereignty over its mineral resources. "We will not relinquish our responsibility and our commitment to defending Brazil and its people as the country's greatest wealth," he declared, greeting the congress participants and expressing his hope that the event would contribute to shaping the COP 30 agenda, to be held in Belém (PA) in November, with concrete proposals to promote the green economy.
Hydro's president, Anderson Baranov, in addition to referencing the relevance of the topics discussed at the Conference promoted by IBRAM, drew attention to the growing diversity of the mineral sector and the increased presence of women in strategic discussions. He emphasized that mining has been repositioning itself alongside innovation and sustainability, with significant progress in recent years.
Subsequently, Vale's Director of Climate and Investment, Hugo Barreto, praised IBRAM's sectoral leadership, on behalf of Raul Jungmann, and highlighted the projects developed by the company in the Amazon, emphasizing the role of mining in forest restoration and the low-carbon economy.
