After a full day of discussions on sustainability and development, the 3rd edition of the Amazon and New Economies International Conference , considered Brazil's main forum for discussing the future of the Amazon and its most innovative and ethical development models, came to an end last Friday (31), at the Salvador Convention Center. To close the event, a panel composed of the CEO of the Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM) , Raul Jungmann, and the former Minister of the Environment, co-president of IRP-UNEP and member of the UN Economic and Social Council, Izabella Teixeira, summarized the main points discussed during the two days.
“Discussing future issues is absolutely fundamental for Brazil to build a new path. And, for that, it is very important that we talk about mining associated with environmental issues and also about the central theme, which is the Amazon,” emphasized Jungmann during his closing speech. With global leaders present, the conference discussed topics such as low-impact mining, carbon financing, bioeconomy, regenerative economies, and integration between Amazonian territories. This meeting gained even more relevance in 2025, the year in which the Amazon will be at the center of the global environmental agenda, with the COP30 taking place in Belém next week.

Tributes
Raul Jungmann paid tribute to the people who care for the Amazon and presented commemorative plaques to Neidinha Suruí, a Brazilian environmental and indigenous rights activist and founder of the Kanindé Ethno-environmental Defense Association, who has fought for decades for the rights of indigenous peoples and the protection of the Amazon; to Dona Nena, a community leader, entrepreneur, and rural producer from Ilha do Combu, in Belém do Pará; and to General Ricardo Costa Neves. At the end, Jungmann was also honored by former minister Izabella Teixeira. “We need to overcome this polarization that divides us and forces us to be for or against. That is why we create spaces where all voices can be heard. The solution is the union of all fronts,” highlighted Raul.
