Alcoa makes progress in female representation.

06/03/2026

On International Women's Day, Alcoa reinforces its commitment to gender equality and celebrates the progress made in increasing female representation in its operations and offices in Brazil. Currently, 28% of Alcoa's workforce is female, with 34% of leadership positions held by women, reinforcing the company's commitment to safe, inclusive, and collaborative environments, especially in traditionally male-dominated areas such as mining.

This progress becomes even more relevant when compared to the scenario of the Brazilian mining sector. According to the Women in Mining Brazil 2025 Indicators Report (WIM Brazil – Women in Mining), female participation in the mining workforce remains stagnant at 22%, without consistent growth in the last three years, with even lower percentages in operational areas, which highlights structural challenges to expanding access and retention of women in technical and industrial roles.

For Alcoa, advancing gender equality and increasing female representation in the company goes beyond numerical goals. The company continuously invests in inclusion policies and practices aimed at attracting, developing, and retaining talent, focusing on safety, adequate infrastructure, and affirmative action initiatives, such as the 2026 edition of the Trainee Program, which is exclusively for women. “We believe that diversity of thought is a strategic factor for innovation, operational excellence, and business sustainability,” says Paula Domingues, Talent Management Manager at Alcoa Brazil.

By strengthening female representation in its units, Alcoa contributes to a mining sector that reflects the diversity of Brazilian society, promoting inclusion and equal opportunities.

Strengthening female representation at Alcoa

The progress in gender equality in Alcoa's operations and offices is the result of an integrated strategy that combines intentional inclusion actions with corporate and local initiatives adapted to the reality of each location.

  • Inclusion groups that promote dialogue, active listening, and an increasingly plural and welcoming environment for all people;
  • Inclusion Committee composed of executives from various business areas and Human Resources, for defining strategic priorities and monitoring results;
  • Affirmative action for women in the 2026 Trainee Program and, for the second consecutive year, in the Apprentice Programs in operational areas.
  • Eleva's career acceleration program for underrepresented groups offers an exclusive development path and group mentoring.
  • Awareness and literacy sessions for leaders and employees, continuous improvement of infrastructure and internal policies, which ensure adequate, equitable and safe conditions in our units.

“Working at Alcoa is great. Since I arrived, I have always been respected and very well received. Even though I've only been in operations for a short time, I felt this care from the beginning. Alcoa offers many opportunities: I started as a young apprentice in a program exclusively for women and, later, I was hired full-time in the area where I work today. I have never suffered any kind of prejudice. Operating equipment in a predominantly male environment is challenging, but at the same time, it is very rewarding and motivating,” says Giovana Oliveira, a machine operator at the Poços de Caldas unit.
